With too many turnovers for Los Angeles, the Jazz took the Lakers last night 103 – 99. Top Scorers: Gasol: 18 pts, 11 rebs! Bynum: 33 pts, 11 rebs! Bryant: 15 pts, 6 rebs!
Ramon Sessions, although currently not starting, racked up 10 pts and 6 assists in 23 minutes compared to Blake’s 0 pts and 2 assists in 27 minutes…say what?
Still, we can’t help but miss Sir Derek Fisher. Funny how all anyone has been saying the past three years is that the Lakers need a point guard, and they act all surprised when D-Fish is traded. Wasn’t this whatcha wanted haters? Those of us who know better can already see the effect of Fisher’s absence on the team in what is being called the “NBA dis of the decade.” Was this retaliation at Fisher’s attempt to rebuild spirit after management’s mishandling had nearly run the team to the ground this season? Or just a personal hit against Bryant as co-captain for Fisher’s actions plus Bynum’s public disatisfaction with Mike Brown and Bryant’s own very public “anti-Kupchak” defense of Gasol?
States Bryant on the sudden trade: “Fisher will be missed. Oh definitely. He’s won 5 championships, and that doesn’t happen by accident. There’s a reason for that.”
Defends Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak: “He [Fisher] may have caught wind of the rumor a day or two ago, but there was no heads up given…It’s not necessary, because a lot of times there’s nothing to the rumors.”
In the meantime, D-Fish is AWOL from Houston…and the situation is only getting stranger every day. Where will D-Fish end up you think? Oklahoma? Chicago? Miami? Retirement?
The next 72 hours will be very, very interesting…
